Meet the Doctors
Geoffrey A. Groat • DDS
I am glad that you are taking the time to acquaint yourself with our office. I have been extremely blessed to have been able to practice pediatric dentistry my entire career and to have been able to have practiced it in San Pedro. It has allowed me to get to know so many wonderful children and their families. I am now old enough to have experienced the unique situation of seeing children whose parents were themselves patients in our office when they were growing up.
I love seeing children who are "cavity-free". I know a lot of those children will remain that way. For those children not so fortunate, it is gratifying to have the opportunity to treat their dental needs, to restore them to good dental health, and to work with their parents to prevent future dental disease. I still enjoy hearing parents express surprise that their child (children) actually enjoy their trips to our office and even look forward to coming back to see us (the Ms. PacMan machine is still quite popular!). Another blessing for me is having a wonderful group of women (and man—Chuck is one of our dental hygienists!) to work with. They are all quite skillful in performing their job duties but, as importantly, they are caring individuals who are committed to doing their best to see that our patients enjoy their time spent with us. Also, I am sure you can imagine how wonderful it has been to now have my son (Dr. Christopher Groat-Holy Trinity class of 1995!) join me in practice.
We know that you have a lot of choices when it comes to making the important decision of where to go for dental care for your child. If you decide to have us provide the dental “home” for your child, I can assure you that earning and maintaining the trust you place in us will guide everything that we do.

As a pediatric dentist, I have the tremendous privilege of providing care for an incredibly diverse, talented, and fun group of children. My goal is to provide the highest quality care for our patients in a manner that is comfortable and non-threatening. I truly believe in the value of positive dental experiences at a young age. Helping an anxious child through an appointment that they themselves never thought could be so easy is the most rewarding part of my job. These experiences can foster a positive attitude toward dental care and can help set a child on a path toward a lifetime of oral health. I am so thankful to be able to work with so many wonderful children and families. Our patients bring so much energy and enthusiasm into the office and I’m often amazed at how funny, smart, and creative they are.
I feel extremely fortunate and proud to have the opportunity to join my father in practice here in San Pedro. I’ve learned a lot about dentistry (and life) from my Dad and one of the best lessons I’ve learned is to care for our patients like family. It is inspiring to work with such a wonderful, energetic team that truly cares about the children and families we serve. We also have a great relationship with this community and I’m excited about fostering and building that relationship for many years to come.
I grew up right here in the San Pedro/Palos Verdes area and attended Holy Trinity School and Loyola High School. I received my Bachelor’s degree in psychobiology from UCLA in 2003. I graduated from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2008. The following year, I completed a general practice residency at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach. After practicing for a short time with my father in San Pedro, I decided to pursue a specialty in pediatric dentistry. I spent two years in Colorado completing my specialty training at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
In my free time, I love to get outside and spend time with my wife, Marianne, and our son, Owen. This area has so much to offer and we try to get out and enjoy it as much as we can. Marianne and I are both avid runners and we love to travel. I also enjoy cycling, windsurfing, and snowboarding.
